How to Avoid Christmas Cavities
- Posted on: Dec 15 2018
When you have a house full of little ones (no matter how little they really are) it can seem like you’re the police. From homework to tooth brushing, you’re always having to follow them around and make sure that they are taken care of. With so much sugar around during the holidays, you may be wondering how on earth you’re going to get your family to avoid cavities. Don’t worry: we’ve got you covered with a few easy and helpful tips.
Ditch the Sugary Drinks
Because your kids are probably getting their fair share of sweets at school and holiday parties, try to cut down on how much sugar that you have around the house. One great way to do that is to eliminate sugary drinks. For instance, if you normally keep soda, juice, and sports drinks in your fridge, you should consider getting rid of them for the month of December so that your kids don’t have the added sugar.
Encourage Frequent Teeth Brushing
Teeth brushing is one of the easiest and best ways to avoid cavities altogether. Rather than just having your kids brush their teeth at morning and night, encourage them to brush their teeth throughout the day as well. Remember that the more they brush their teeth, the less likely they are going to have dental issues.
Fill Their Stocking With Toothbrushes
If you really want to keep your family’s teeth protected, try skipping the candy and fill their stockings full of toothbrushes instead. If you have college aged kids or kids who are out of the house, this is something they may actually really appreciate. If you have little kids, they may roll their eyes but every eye roll will be worth it, right?
