Haunted Halloween: 3 Ways to Protect Your Little Ghouls Mouths

General Dentistry Abington, PAHaunted houses, bowls of candy, costumes, and trick-or-treating are all things that make Halloween many people’s favorite holiday. However, although the fun of Halloween outweighs the bad, it’s still good to be aware of your child’s oral health— especially during this time of year. To make sure your little ghoul gets to enjoy Halloween without dental pain or problems, try these tips.

Watch the Sugar

Halloween is probably the hardest time of year for parents to limit their child’s sugar intake— but someone has to do it. Rather than being stuck with the title of “candy police” try to replace processed candy and sweets with something a little more fun like string cheese turned into mummies or apples, peanut butter, and raisins turned into a mouth full of black teeth. Remember that the more fun you have when swapping treats for healthy snacks, the less your child is going to mind.

Avoid Teeth Stains

Although blackened teeth are a Japanese tradition, you may not want your little one walking around with a mouth full of stained teeth. Although over-the-counter black tooth wax is typically safe on teeth, they may end up staining them a darker shade of gray in the process. To play it safe, try avoiding wax and teeth stains altogether.

No Running With Fangs

Vampire fangs are the way to just about every child’s heart— especially around Halloween. Make sure that your child doesn’t run with these artificial fangs in their mouth because they can get either choke on them, or they can get lodged into their gums, making them bleed and sore in the process.

Halloween can wreak havoc on your child’s teeth. If you would like to learn more about general dentistry tips, contact McDowell Dental Group today.
