What Issues Can Be Addressed With A Smile Makeover?

Smile makeovers can fix cosmetic dentistry issues such as tooth color, alignment, the spacing of teeth, missing teeth, chipped or broken teeth, shape, and proportions of teeth, and the overall symmetry of one’s bite.

What Dental Procedures Are Included For A Smile Makeover?

General and cosmetic dentistry procedures in a Smile Makeover can include:

This service may be done here in the office in a single sitting. In-office teeth whitening takes about an hour. During the visit, we apply protective sheeting to the lips and gums and then apply the whitening gel to your teeth. A special light activates the whitening gel to accelerate the lifting of stain molecules. Each application takes about 15 minutes. To achieve the best results, we can repeat the process a few times.

Teeth whitening may also be prescribed as a home treatment. Some patients prefer to have more control over their whitening process, so choose to receive custom-fit whitening trays and a supply of whitening gel that they can apply every day for a period of a few weeks.

Dental crowns are categorized as restorative devices, but they do improve the appearance of the smile, as well. A crown may be a part of a Smile Makeover as a replacement for a large amalgam filling or to repair a tooth that has been chipped or cracked and requires more extensive coverage than what can be supplied by a veneer. Dental crowns, which fit entirely over the visible portion of a tooth, are fabricated from various materials that look and feel like natural enamel, so they blend seamlessly into the smile.

Dental veneers are cosmetic “jackets” that are bonded to the front of teeth. Their purpose is solely to improve the appearance of the smile. Veneers are used on teeth at the front of the mouth that have stains, chips, cracks, gaps, or other imperfections. Each veneer is custom-made from lifelike ceramic or porcelain material.

The results of a Smile Makeover can be affected by your bite. If you have TMJ disorder, there is a chance that there is some type of imbalance in your bite. This may not require braces, but a custom-made neuromuscular appliance to reduce the stress on your temporomandibular joints, as well as your teeth. By addressing bite issues, we can improve the long-term outcome of other cosmetic treatments, such as porcelain veneers.

Dental implants may be a part of a Smile Makeover that is designed to address tooth loss, badly damaged teeth, and other concerns. While we used to replace missing teeth primarily with dentures or dental bridgework, we now commonly insert dental implants to replace the missing roots before we move on to restoring teeth. Dental implants improve long-term outcomes for patients because these tiny posts integrate into the jawbone, where they are not seen and are not felt. Their role is to support replacement teeth, whether that includes a dental crown, a bridge, or full dentures. Additionally, dental implants support the regeneration of bone tissue in the jaw, a function that is necessary for facial structure and chewing.

Gum Recontouring

The size and shape of the teeth are directly influenced by our gum tissue. If your teeth look very short and small and your gums are the most visible part of your smile, you may benefit from including gum contouring into your Smile Makeover. In this treatment, the dentist carefully reshapes the gums around the teeth that show when you smile. Once the tissue is reshaped, the results should remain indefinitely.

Clear aligners like Invisalign have made it easier than ever for teens and adults to agree to orthodontic-type treatment. Clear aligners are not classified as orthodontics, but they work similarly to move teeth into the proper positions. Over time, the Invisalign system has evolved to successfully treat a number of alignment issues, including overbite, underbite, crossbite, gaps, and overlap.

Who Is A Good Candidate For A Smile Makeover?

Smile Makeover candidates are individuals who are unhappy or embarrassed by their smile and who would like to correct it through general dentistry and cosmetic dentistry. Candidates could also include those who are unable to function as well as they once did, or those who experience pain with their bite. Prior to cosmetic dentistry treatments, any underlying disease or decay must be addressed and patients must understand the commitment required to maintain good hygiene once cosmetic dentistry treatment is completed.

How Many Sessions Is A Smile Makeover?

Every Smile Makeover is customized around the patient. At your consultation, we discuss your desired improvements and expected outcome. We discuss the various treatment options that can achieve your goals, including costs and the expected number of visits. Some Smile Makeovers take just one or two visits to the office, some may take several. Before you embark on your makeover journey, you will be fully informed about each step of your treatment plan.

What Results Can A Smile Makeover Achieve?

The Smile Makeover that is customized to your needs can achieve a number of improvements. After your makeover, you may have a straighter, brighter, healthier smile. Chips can be hidden by veneers, as can turned teeth. Cavities can be carefully repaired with tooth-colored restorations. Missing teeth can be replaced. There are so many tiny improvements that can come from a Smile Makeover. Ultimately, though, the results that are achieved with personalized care include feeling more confident in and satisfied with the appearance of your teeth.

How Long Do Smile Makeover Results Last?

Smile Makeovers can change your smile forever. Depending on the treatments involved in your makeover plan, certain aspects of your smile may benefit from periodic care. For example, if your Smile Makeover involves the correction of mild to moderate misalignment using Invisalign, your results can last as long as you continue to monitor alignment and wear a retainer. Smile Makeovers that focus only on cosmetic improvements, such as restoring radiance through teeth whitening, may last several years, provided that you take measures to avoid exposure to stain-causing substances.

Aftercare And Maintenance For Smile Makeovers
