With the holidays behind us, it’s the perfect time to pack your bags and head somewhere warm. If you have a temporomandibular joint disorder, then the stress for the holidays may have left your jaw and ears feeling a little bit sore. To help you loosen up and unwind while you travel, we have created a list of things that you can do for your TMJ.
Bring a Firm Pillow
There’s no point in seeing whether or not you’re going to get a good pillow at the hotel you stay at. Rather than take the chances of ending up with a pillow that’s uncomfortable, make sure that you bring your firm pillow with your from home. Remember that firm pillows will support your jaw and your neck while you sleep which may help to alleviate any pain.
Avoid Driving
Rather than you being the one behind the wheel on your road trip, try to get your spouse to take over this job. That way you don’t have to worry about the stress of driving. Plus, you can use that time to rest and take some time for yourself.
Take Ibuprofen
If you are experiencing any pain or swelling make sure that you bring some ibuprofen with you while you’re traveling. Ibuprofen is one of the best ways for you to get rid of both of these issues. If, however, you are on any blood thinning medication, talk to your doctor before you take this medication.
